Same with chocolates. Drinks are in, both 20 mg and 100 mg. Hash is on the shelf, and hash joints will be ready by 4/20.

If you’ve been in recently, you’ve probably noticed the menu shifting. We’re leaning harder into New Mexico brands and products made with better inputs. Less sugar, no high fructose corn syrup, more full spectrum and rosin-based infusions. The focus is on more intentional consumption. Products that support people across a range of needs, grounded in the plant itself and how it’s meant to be experienced.

And for everyone who’s been asking, the wait is almost over on plants.

We’ll have cannabis stars for sale in the shop on 4/20. This is something people have been asking about for a long time, and we’re excited to finally bring it in. Whether you’re looking to grow at home or just want to better understand the plant from the ground up, we’re here to support. We’ll have a limited number available to begin with, and we’ll build from there.

4/20 will also go beyond the menu.

We’ll have pop-ups from local brands, along with our farm partner Upriver Herb out of Abiquiu. They grow the majority of our dry cured flower, as well as much of the flower that goes into the rosin we source.

We’ll also be hosting a plant sale here at the shop.

And we’re putting on an exhibition of Taos Pueblo ceramics made from micaceous clay. Functional pieces. Cookware, vessels, objects you can use every day, made with the kind of material and technique that’s been here a long time.

Come by, take a look, pick something up, or just spend some time in the space. Not just the ingredients on the label, but the steps it takes to turn a raw plant into a finished product. Highly processed foods are broken down, stripped apart, purified, and rebuilt. Minimally processed foods aren’t. They keep more of their original structure intact.

Cannabis edibles are food, too. The same logic applies.

Most gummies on the market are made with THC distillate. Distillate is not just refined, it’s fully industrialized. The cannabis plant is dissolved, fractionalized, isolated into individual compounds using solvents or gas, repeatedly purified, and then recombined into a standardized output. The original flower does not survive that process. Its balance, variability, and character are removed entirely. What remains is a narrow, engineered molecule processed for predictability.

That approach works, which is why it dominates the category.

Rosin is built on the opposite idea. It’s made using water, pressure, and low temperature. No solvents. No chemical separation. No reconstruction. The plant is never dissolved or taken apart, so cannabinoids, terpenes, and strain character remain together. Nothing is stripped out, and nothing has to be added back later.

That distinction is why we designed a new sleep gummy in collaboration with Cloudwalker.

Our top-selling sleep gummy is also the most popular sleep gummy in the country. It’s consistent, familiar, and effective. It uses a 10–10–10 cannabinoid formulation that clearly works for a lot of people. But it’s built on distillate, contains animal-derived ingredients, and relies on heavily processed inputs. While it performs exactly as designed, it has never really reflected how we think about cannabis.

We wanted to design a sleep gummy with better ingredients, without changing what people already expect from the experience.

So this formulation starts with single-strain, full-spectrum cannabis rosin. Not blended. Not isolated. Not rebuilt. Rosin tends to produce a sleep effect that feels steadier and less abrupt, because THC isn’t acting alone and the plant’s natural balance is still present.

To match the cannabinoid profile people already trust, we still include CBN and CBD at 10 milligrams each, sourced as organic isolates. The formulation is intentional and familiar: 10 milligrams THC, 10 milligrams CBN, and 10 milligrams CBD. The difference isn’t the dose. It’s where the cannabinoids came from—organic flower—and how they were concentrated.

From there, supportive plant medicines like ashwagandha and valerian root help the nervous system downshift. The goal isn’t sedation or force. It’s allowing the body to settle into sleep rather than being pushed there.

Once you commit to minimal processing, the rest of the ingredient list follows naturally. No petrochemical distillates. No artificial colors or flavors. No corn syrup or high-fructose corn syrup. No animal products. Not because those things are trendy to avoid, but because they work against a sleep product that’s meant to be calming, simple, and physiologically gentle.

The price is $20. The same as our top-selling sleep gummy. That’s deliberate.

This isn’t about replacing anything or convincing everyone to switch. Some people will always prefer a familiar, mass-market sleep gummy that does one thing the same way every time. That’s a real preference, and it’s not going away.

This is about offering a sleep gummy that reflects our values around ingredients, processing, and plant integrity, instead of compromising those things because a product happens to sell well.

If you’re paying closer attention to how your food is made, this difference will feel obvious.

Our new Cloudwalker collaboration sleep gummy is now in stock at Bighorn.

Secret Deal of the Week

Say “better sleep gummy” for 20% off the Cloudwalker sleep gummy.

Thanks for reading Good Weed News! They always have. But that doesn’t mean craft is weak or fading. In many ways, quality has gotten better year after year. Cultivators refine their programs. Breeders tighten their selections. Mistakes get worked out. The plant improves.

What has changed is that craft stopped pretending there was only one right outcome.

For a long time, success meant premium flower, full stop. That made sense when margins were wide and competition was thin. Today, a small farm that only has one way to finish a harvest is vulnerable. Not because the weed isn’t good, but because markets move.

The farms that feel most resilient now are the ones building flexibility into the plant itself.
<div Others are frozen right away so the resin heads stay intact and can be separated later using only ice, water, heat, and pressure. Same genetics. Different care. Different result.

That shift isn’t accidental. Breeders like Auryn McCafferty, who grew up in New Mexico and founded Purple City Genetics in the Bay Area, talk openly about selecting genetics that support both paths. The goal isn’t to hedge. It’s to let small farms decide how to finish a crop based on real conditions instead of locking themselves into a single bet.

That flexibility also demands deeper knowledge from growers. Harvesting for flower and harvesting for solventless concentrates are not the same job. Preserving trichomes and resin heads requires different timing, temperatures, and handling. Freezing a plant at peak expression is just as intentional as curing one slowly. Neither is lesser. They’re simply different expressions of the same plant.

Rosin often gets mislabeled as “too strong,” but that’s not really the issue. Most people just aren’t shown how to approach it. Unlike flower, rosin asks for a little more care. You don’t need much, usually just a small piece, about the size of a grain, and it wants gentle heat, not a torch. When it’s handled right, you let it melt instead of burn, and the experience becomes clearer and calmer rather than overwhelming. Without that context, people tend to use too much, too hot, and walk away thinking rosin isn’t for them. In reality, it’s one of the cleanest expressions of the plant, but like anything concentrated, it rewards restraint and a bit of guidance.

This is also where accessibility comes into play. Hash and rosin can feel intimidating not because they’re exotic, but because they usually require different tools and a different rhythm. If the only way to try something is to buy equipment, take it home, and figure it out alone, most people won’t bother. When they do, they often miss the mark and blame the product instead of the setup.

Spaces where people can try these expressions with the right tools and a little guidance lower that barrier dramatically. Not to push anyone harder or faster, but to slow things down and make the experience intelligible. Once people understand that they’re aiming for a small melt, not a spectacle, rosin stops feeling extreme and starts feeling precise.

All of this points to the same conclusion. Craft cannabis didn’t disappear. It compressed, refined, and got more intentional. As consolidation took over the commodity layer, the people who stayed committed to quality went deeper instead of louder. Better genetics. Better post-harvest care. Better understanding of how flower and hash serve different people and moments.

Cheap weed will always exist. That’s fine. It serves a purpose.

Craft lives somewhere else. It lives where flavor matters, where process matters, and where someone is willing to explain the difference without making you feel dumb for not already knowing.

That’s not a failure of the market. It’s a sign that the plant, and the culture around it, are still maturing.

And like most good things, the best parts don’t announce themselves. They spread quietly, person to person, once someone shows you how to use them.

Secret Deal of the Week: say “let it melt” for 20% off hash or rosin.

Thanks for reading Good Weed News! It came from a simpler intuition. Most people don’t like discounts they can’t see. Points programs that live in a register, an app, or a receipt you’ve already lost don’t feel real. They feel abstract. Forgettable. Hard to trust.

But a punch card is different.

People will keep a punch card folded in a wallet until it’s soft, torn, and barely legible. They’ll remember exactly how many punches are left. They’ll pull it out with intention. Because it’s tangible. Because it represents something real.

A future moment where a Bighorn 5-joint pack costs a dollar.

A $1 moment.

The Bighorn Punch Card was the first discount we ever offered. Buy our 5-joint pack. Pay full price for four. The fifth is $1. No expiration. No hidden math. No account to log into.

People didn’t rush it. They punched the card one visit at a time—sometimes over days, sometimes weeks, sometimes longer. And then one day, they hit that fifth punch and stood at the counter paying a single dollar for something that normally cost a whole lot more.

That moment mattered. It still does.

As time went on, people used the card however it made sense for them. Some stayed steady, letting the deal stretch out. Others picked up a few at once and finished sooner. A few figured out how to structure their purchases so that $1 moments showed up every time they restocked. None of that broke the deal. It proved it worked.

Later, we added other ways to save. The $3 joint made everyday weed easier to reach. And BOGO Bighorn came along for the days you can buy more than one. A faster, upfront way to save when you’re ready to stock up.

The punch card has reflected Bighorn’s ethos from the beginning: real world and easy goin. A deal you can see, hold, and trust to still be there when you’re ready for a $1 moment.

So now we’re extending it, not by reinventing it, but by trusting the idea that made it work in the first place.

The Bighorn Punch Card now applies to all Bighorn flower and pre-roll products. And yes, that includes top shelf indoor and infused joints. Four normal purchases, and then the fifth rings up for $1.

That moment never stops feeling good.

You’ll notice the punch card stays simple. In true Bighorn fashion, we’re using the OG card and writing in the product you choose, turning the deal into something specific. From that moment on, it’s no longer a generic punch card. It’s your ticket to a $1 moment. One size of flower pack or one typevof pre-roll—you gotta try the hash joints—five purchases, taken however fast or slow you like. No mixing, no fine print, just an easy going deal that keeps its shape.

If you want a $3 joint, it’s always there.

If you can buy two items today, BOGO Bighorn is still the best deal in town.

But if you’re the kind of person who buys one at a time, or you just like knowing a $1 moment is waiting for you down the road, go for the OG Bighorn discount.

Ask for a punch card at the counter.

Tell us what you want it for and have your $1 moment.

Easy goin.

Thanks for reading Good Weed News! Same tape. Same price.

What was missing was choice. There was no menu to compare, no decision to optimize. The question was not which joint to buy. It was whether to take the one that was there.

What was also missing was attention. We never announced it. We never framed it as a strategy. For more than a year, it spread entirely by word of mouth.

In that sense, it existed covertly in plain sight. Everyone could observe it. And we had the sense that something consequential was happening.

The context around this was ordinary. The Taos cannabis market was becoming crowded in the way small markets always do. More shops, more incentives and discounts—often complicated ones—competing for the same attention. The pressure to market harder was obvious.

The $3 joint was not a marketing response to that pressure. It was an operational experiment. I wanted to see what would happen if an entry-level product were fixed in price and availability, and then left alone. No marketing. No urgency. No explanation. Something stable enough that customers could build patterns around it, and rigid enough that the organization would be forced to adapt around it.

Most cannabis businesses treat low-priced products tactically. They clear inventory, spike a slow weekend, or create urgency when something else is not working. Price becomes a lever to pull. I was more interested in what would happen if that lever were removed entirely.

A joint you sell occasionally can be improvised. A joint you sell every day cannot. Consistency stops being aspirational and becomes mandatory. Inputs must be reliable. Manufacturing must be repeatable. Production schedules must smooth out instead of lurching from rush to rush.

The $3 joint quietly reorganized the business upstream. In particular, it forced a more deliberate approach to sourcing high-quality sungrown flower. Not as a compromise, but as a foundation. Sungrown allowed us to work with larger, more predictable lots of organic flower and to build longer-term relationships with suppliers that understood consistency mattered more than novelty. Over time, our operation has become less reactive and more planned.

The effects were not dramatic in the way launches are spun dramatically for the street. There were no spikes, no announcement moments, no visible inflection points. No self-congratulations online. Instead, the constraints imposed by a simple promise began to shape everything around it. Fewer one-off SKUs. Fewer emergency production days. Shorter decision loops. Less noise.

Between our first and second full years of operation, the amount of flower we manufactured into finished products increased by nearly 100 percent, despite no corresponding increase in marketing spend, physical footprint, or pricing complexity.

That figure matters not because it signals healthy growth, but because it reflects a structural shift. The $3 joint did not merely increase demand for Bighorn Weed. It imposed operational discipline for our small business. It forced the organization to reorganize itself around reliability rather than hype. Convenience one can count on.

The fixed price did something else as well. It made our space accessible. Anyone could walk in knowing they could afford something. All day. Every day. In a moment when almost everything continues to get more expensive, we held one line steady. That choice quietly communicated something we never needed to say out loud. Everyone is welcome at Bighorn. There is always an option. No one needed to justify being here.

What surprised me was not what people said or even what they bought. It was how little deliberation remained.

Over time, the $3 joint stopped registering as a decision. It was not evaluated or compared. It was simply present. When people entered the shop, their movement adjusted around it. The question shifted from whether to buy it to whether to buy anything else.

None of this came from advertising. It came from deliberate constraint.

By holding price steady and removing choice, we eliminated a quiet but constant negotiation. People no longer had to calculate whether they had enough money, enough certainty, or enough context to make a purchase. It was no longer a question of whether someone belonged in the room. The answer was embedded in the environment of our shop before they arrived.

That shift is not an endpoint. It is an alignment. Product has flowed well through Bighorn since the beginning. What has changed is our willingness to observe that movement without interference and to learn from it. From there, the work is no longer about forcing demand. It becomes deciding—deliberately—what to build around it.

Thanks for reading Good Weed News! It moves last.

Executives can redirect enforcement. They can reinterpret statutes. They can stop defending what no longer holds. They can open doors and step aside.

But executives cannot resolve contradictions written into law.

Banking rules are statutory. Tax law is statutory. Interstate commerce is statutory. Section 280E is not a policy preference. It is a line in the Internal Revenue Code. An Attorney General can move pieces on the board. Only Congress can change the board itself.

Executives loosen. Legislatures settle.

The courts are already circling

When law drifts too far from lived reality, courts become the place where contradictions surface.

Medical cannabis patients recognized by their states are still stripped of constitutional rights under federal doctrine. Gun rights cases for medical patients are not about firearms. They are about legitimacy. A substance cannot be recognized as medicine and simultaneously serve as the basis for civil disability.

Courts dislike incoherence. They resolve it.

Criminal justice is not separate from reform. It is the debt

For decades, cannabis prohibition filled jails, fractured families, and permanently marked lives. Enforcement was not evenly applied. Entire communities absorbed the cost while others quietly benefited from eventual legalization.

Any serious federal reform that recognizes cannabis as medicine must also confront the punishment that accompanied its denial. Rescheduling without repair is not justice. It is amnesia.

Expungement, sentencing review, and reintegration are not side issues. They are the moral ledger attached to prohibition. And the executive branch can do more on this.

The heroin paradox tells you everything

Heroin is illegal.

Morphine, oxycodone, hydromorphone, fentanyl are legal, prescribed, reimbursed.

Same receptors. Same risks. Different framing.

Federal drug policy was never about chemistry. It was about control.

Cannabis broke the model because its therapeutic value cannot be cleanly separated from the plant itself. There is no neat handoff to a patented molecule without first suppressing the plant.

So suppression came first.

Pharmaceutical interest follows inevitability, not justice

For decades, powerful interests lobbied to keep cannabis research frozen. Schedule I was not an accident. It was a moat.

Now that the wall is cracking, the strategy shifts. Isolate compounds. Patent delivery systems. Marginalize the whole plant under the language of safety and standardization.

This pattern is old. What matters is memory.

Never forget who insisted there was no medical use when patients already knew otherwise. This is not an invitation to reassert control. It is a reckoning.

Does Congress still have to act?

Yes. If we want coherence.

Executives can open doors. Courts can force contradictions into the open. But only Congress can align banking, taxation, commerce, and criminal justice into a single framework.

Until then, cannabis policy remains unstable. Accepted but penalized. Recognized but incomplete.

That instability benefits those who arrived late and punishes those who lived with the consequences.

This is not the Berlin Wall. It is the Iron Curtain.

It did not fall because of a single decision. It collapsed because the story holding it up stopped making sense.

Cannabis prohibition is in its late phase. The science has moved on. The states have moved on. The patients have moved on.

What remains is inertia and interest.

And those never survive forever.

Gradually, then suddenly.

Thanks for reading Good Weed News! Like the brisket, it’s best not overdone.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

In the evening, we’ll shift gears. Old stories from overseas. Faded descriptions from travelers. Secondhand images standing in for a culture that never had the chance to define itself on its own soil.

We are starting fresh.

Bighorn Cannabis Lounge is not modeled on anything. It rises from Taos itself. From the way people gather here. From the pace of this place. From the clarity of the air and the way time stretches in the mountains. It comes from a town that can feel what is real and what is forced.

We are creating a home for a kind of plant culture that has never been given honest room in this country. Not commercialized. Not sanitized. Not shaped to imitate a bar. A space where the plant sits at the center like any ingredient that deserves respect. Held with care. Handled with intention. Grounded in place.

This lounge is our answer to the belief that cannabis must be hidden or hyped or squeezed into a format it never chose. Cannabis can be social without chaos. It can be elevated without artifice. It can be easy goin without losing intention.

Here the plant is not a product. It is a guest of honor.

Here people do not come to drift away. They come to arrive.

Here the room moves with a calm rhythm. Conversations stretch. The pace stays human. Presence forms naturally.

We reject the idea that cannabis culture must follow another’s blueprint.

We reject that respect means quieting the human part and community means drowning it out.

We reject the framing that people who enjoy cannabis are customers passing through instead of participants in something alive.

We claim the middle ground.

The human ground.

The take your time ground.

The this place belongs to all of us ground.

This is where hand brined pastrami meets high mountain herb.

Where weed cocktails are composed with care and purpose.

Where Volcano vaporizers sit beside cups of high tea and dosing becomes a ritual instead of guessing.

This is a new category of gathering space in America. Not borrowed. Not imported. Not recreated. Grown from this soil and this light and this way of being.

We open the Bighorn Cannabis Lounge as a quiet declaration that plant culture can be thoughtful and grounded and unmistakably local. A place where the door stays open and the experience stays easy goin.

Here we go.

See you on the corner.

<a class="image-link image2 A lot of people online are calling it a hemp ban. It’s not that simple. The law closes the loophole that allowed intoxicating hemp products to be sold outside state cannabis systems, and it gives the country one year to transition.

Here’s what that means for all of us.

What the new law does

Beginning one year from now, legal hemp will have to meet three new federal requirements:

1. Total THC per container must be 0.4 milligrams or less

This replaces the old 0.3 percent delta-9 THC by dry weight rule. It applies to the finished product, not the plant. Most gas station gummies and vapes exceed this threshold by thousands of percent.

2. Hemp products cannot contain cannabinoids that are manufactured or synthesized outside the plant

This is the big one. Most intoxicating hemp products (delta-8, HHC, THC-O, etc.) come from converting CBD isolate in a lab. Under the new language, those cannabinoids are no longer considered hemp.

3. Hemp products cannot contain cannabinoids with effects similar to THC if they’re marketed as such

This gives federal agencies authority to classify intoxicating cannabinoids as controlled substances even if they were previously sold as hemp.

Put simply, the loophole era is ending.

What this means for regular people in New Mexico

Nothing changes about your dispensary experience. New Mexico already regulates cannabis. You already buy tested, labeled, compliant products.

What you gain is clarity. The market here won’t have to compete with gas station intoxicants that bypass testing and safety standards.

What this means for our Texas neighbors

Texas leaned on hemp retail instead of building a cannabis program. That market relied heavily on converted cannabinoids. Under the new law:

• Most delta-8, HHC and similar products will no longer qualify as legal hemp

• Retailers have one year to wind those products down

• Enforcement will depend on Texas, but the federal definition is now clear

The good news is simple. You can still come to New Mexico and purchase regulated cannabis. Nothing changes about your ability to shop here legally.

Texas may get more confusing for a while, but New Mexico stays consistent.

This is bigger than hemp. It’s the beginning of federal alignment.

By banning manufactured cannabinoids and imposing a total THC limit on finished products, the federal government is taking a major step toward treating hemp and cannabis as parts of the same plant. Not separate industries. Not separate realities.

One plant. One law.

This shift forces Congress to confront what has been true for years. The United States already has a functioning cannabis economy spread across dozens of states. The only thing missing is federal alignment.

Closing the hemp loophole sets the stage for:

• A unified national framework for cannabinoids

• A fix to 280E and the IRS issues legal operators face

• Future interstate commerce between regulated states

• Real safety standards instead of fifty workarounds

When intoxicating cannabinoids fall under one definition, federal cannabis reform becomes inevitable. The accounting fiction that split hemp from cannabis no longer holds.

What comes next

We’re in a one-year transition period and attaching this hemp provision to a law funding the government was not popular. The pushback has already begun. States will adjust. Agencies will issue guidance. Operators will have to make tough choices, but what else is new.

Hemp and cannabis are now positioned to move toward a single federal standard. It won’t happen overnight, but this law marks a meaningful step.

Until then, New Mexico remains one of the most consistent and transparent cannabis markets in the country. If you want tested products, clean labeling and clear rules, we’re here to help :)

***

This week’s secret code phrase is “One Plant One Law”.
